This e-mail is to advise that Cumberland County DRS will be hosting the 2010 Western Conference at the Comfort Suites in downtown Carlisle. I know, I know, people in western Pa. think we’re in the east, but people in the eastern portion think we are in the west. So we’re on the western side of the Susquehanna which should qualify. I am sending this announcement to the entire state in case counties from the eastern portion wish to attend. We will provide updates as we move forward. Preliminarily I would like to get an idea of how many counties might attend, and whether you might consider overnight stay or daily attendance. For planning purposes please be advised the hotel rate will be $89 per night (plus applicable tax). You can have more than one person to a room and the price remains the same.
There is an enclosed parking garage immediately behind the facility and parking will be free for conference attendees who stay overnight. Daily attendees would pay 50 cents per hour with a maximum of $5 to park in the garage all day. There will be a continental breakfast each morning that will be free. For further information regarding the facility you can go to: www.comfortsuitescarlisle.com and check out the facility. The dates for the conference are June 9/10/11 of 2010.
We are planning a golf tournament most likely at the U.S. Army War College Golf Course. Those not interested in golfing can avail themselves of the Army Heritage Center on Wednesday afternoon as well. I am sure we have many other things to keep one occupied for an afternoon. Inasmuch as downtown Carlisle is noted for its antique shops and restaurant/bars/pubs we will be having a bar crawl similar to what occurs at Director’s Conferences, or so I am told. There will be no need to drive as the hotel is located within a block or two of all the places you need to crawl to. We have some local establishments that will be offering reduced pricing for drinks at their respective establishments.
Hopefully your budgets are done and you have an idea of how many, or if you can send any staff, please feel free to contact Larry Miller or myself. As a warning to Roy McCullagh, we will be contacting you in the very near future to discuss the possibility of PACSETI participation; much like Ann Marie did when she was thinking about hosting the 2010 Western. We swapped years and I believe she might host in 2011. There are approximately 99 rooms and we’d like to fill it up if possible. Thanks for any information you can send. We promise to have a well thought and stimulating agenda, plus some neat things to do when you are not in meetings
