MIFFLINTOWN—Jeffrey Alan Funk, 62, of Mifflintown, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 14, 2009. Born May 30, 1946, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Gerald W. and Mary E. (Montgomery) Funk. Jeff is survived by: his beloved wife, Jill D. (Busch) Funk; children, Craig Funk and his wife, Kimberly, of Mifflintown, Jeremy Funk and his wife, Laurie, currently deployed to Camp Liberty, Iraq, and Jennifer (Funk) Lyke and her husband, Darin, of Mansfield, Texas; three grandchildren, Matthew Willis, Logan Lyke, and Elizabeth Lyke; one brother, Brian Funk and his wife, Donna, of Mt. Holly, N.J.; and two nieces, Erin and her husband, Mike and Allison Funk.
Jeff is a 1964 graduate of Narimasu High School, Tokyo, Japan and a 1973 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, University Park of which he is a life member of the Alumni Association. He is also an Eagle Scout and a United States Army and United States Marine Corps Veteran. He was a former probation and parole officer in Juniata County and retired as the Director of Domestic Relations Section (DRS) in Juniata County.
After retiring, Jeff and his wife fulfilled their life-long dream of owning a motor coach and traveling coast to coast throughout the United States. As part of their travels they worked the International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot Center in Walt Disney World for two seasons.
In addition to traveling, camping, and kayaking with friends and family, Jeff was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 124, Licking Creek for many years and up until his illness, he still attended the weekly troop meetings. During this involvement with Troop 124 and the Juniata Valley Council, he served as Troop Committee member, Assistant Scout Master, District Commissioner, and Council Executive Board member. Jeff earned the Silver Beaver award and The National Lutheran Association of Scouters’ Certificate of Commendation. He also traveled to the Philmont Training Center and Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
Jeff was a weekly volunteer at the Juniata County Library for many years and was a member of the American Legion, Marine Corps League, Penn Coachmen Chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association, and the Escapees RV Club. Jeff loved his life, his family and friends and was always planning the next great adventure for everyone.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 23 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Licking Creek Valley, with the Rev. Chris Mathiason officiating.
